Bonus, he’s got a southern accent! Then he discovers a side of Kris he’d never seen when he walks into one of his favorite bars and sees Kris on stage with a guitar in his hands. Adam finds it very difficult to concentrate on books and research and cataloguing when all he can think about is the way Kris moved on stage.

Kris Allen, librarian by day, musician by night. He thinks that Adam is sweet and gorgeous and way out of his league, until the night Adam seduces Kris in the poetry stacks. At first Kris believes that Adam just wanted a one-night stand, another notch in his already well-notched belt, but Adam won’t leave him alone, and he gets this look on his face when anyone else stands really close to Kris.

Adam decides he wants to make an honest man out of Kris, but will Kris let himself believe in happily ever after?

Chapter 3

“Hey, Kris.  Please sit with us after your set?”

“Um, sure.  Thanks, Adam.”  He walked away smiling.

After Kris’s performance, he went backstage to put away his things, and then he made his way over to Adam’s table.  Along the way, however, men were coming up to him and…

“Oh God, he’s got that look again”, Brad snorted into his vodka tonic with a twist.

“What?”  Adam shrugged.

“Kris”, Cassidy stood up to greet Kris as he walked over to their table, staring at Adam.

“Hi”, he said shyly.

“Hey, Kris.”  Adam pulled out a chair for him to sit next to him.

Kris just looked at him and smiled, sitting.

They all ended up having a very pleasant evening.  Kris really enjoyed meeting Adam’s friends.

Kris got complemented throughout the night by ‘every man in the bar’, or so it seemed to Adam.

Feeling possessive for some reason, Adam took Kris’s hand and squeezed it gently, causing Kris to look up at him with big brown eyes.

“Kris.”  Adam stared right back.

“Adam?”  Kris answered dreamily.

Adam leaned forward and planted a very soft and sweet kiss on Kris’s lips.

Cass and Brad snickered at the obvious moment Adam and Kris were having.

“Shit, he’s got it bad”.

“So, Adam hasn’t stopped talking about you”, Brad chirped.

“Really?”  Kris was actually a little surprised.  He thought that Adam just saw him as a conquest and would move on.  Maybe not.

Adam just blushed.

Adam had been so enthralled last evening that he’d forgotten to get Kris’s number again.  He was kicking himself when he got home, wishing he could say goodnight in a text or something.

It was also something that Kris had visibly noticed, but tried not to think about.  ‘That wouldn’t mean anything’, he tried to convince himself.

When Kris arrived at the library the next day, Adam was in his usual spot, reading.  He saw Kris come in and then an undergraduate student immediately approached him asking questions.

Why is he standing so close to Kris?’  Adam jumped up out of his seat and by the time he came over to Kris, the boy had walked away.

“Adam”, Kris spoke first, surprised.

“Hi Kris”, Adam said gently.  “I really had a nice time last night.  You were great, again.”

“Thank you”, he said, shyly.

“Hey Kris?”

“Hmm?”

“Do you regret the other night?  I mean, I don’t and…”

“No, I don’t.”  He smiled.

“Well good.  I’d like to do it again sometime”, he said cheerily.

“What?”

“Um, that didn’t come out right.  Kris, would you like to go out with me?  On a date?”

“A date?”  Kris repeated.

Adam took his hand, “Yeah, a real date.  I like you and I’d like to get to know you better.

“I’d like that, too”, Kris felt himself melt.

“May I please have your phone?”

Kris reached into his pocket and handed his phone to Adam, who took it and put in his phone number and then he called himself.

After taking a quick photo of each other to attach to their numbers, Adam handed Kris his phone back.

About an hour later, Adam was in the research area of the library and he took out his phone to look at the picture of Kris.  Smiling, he sent him a text.

Kris heard his phone buzz and grinned when Adam’s picture came on the screen.  ‘New text - Adam: Would you do the honor of going out with me tomorrow night?’

Kris beamed and quickly texted back, ‘Yes’.

Adam phone buzzed and he read Kris’s answer, grinning.  He later found Kris in the poetry section of the library.  “Hi”, he said, standing against the shelves, arms folded.

“Hi.”

“Funny meeting you here”, he snickered.

“Yeah, I’ll never quite look at this section the same.”

“So, I’ll need your address, Kris.”

Kris took out his business card and wrote his address on the back.  Then he turned it over to gaze at the writing.  “Kristopher Allen, Campus Librarian, Cal State Fullerton”, he chuckled, “Very professional, Kristopher”, Adam chuckled.   The card listed Kris’s regular hours.  Now he knew his schedule.  Adam tucked the card safely into his wallet.

The next afternoon, Adam came home early from the library to get ready for his date with Kris.  He was giddy with excitement.  He had never felt this way about a guy before.  Sure, he had had lots of dates, lots of hookups, but this was different.  This was Kris.  Adam smiled to himself, ‘I think I’m falling in love with him’.

Adam did his hair and makeup and had found the perfect outfit.  He was picking Kris up at six thirty for dinner and then a club in the city.  He decided on a nice little French Restaurant with great ambiance and even better food.

Meanwhile, Kris was in a tizzy.  Throwing clothes all over his bed, finding nothing that suited him.  He had showered and fixed his hair, the best he could, anyways, but he wanted to look perfect for Adam.  Adam, he had a date with Adam.  He felt himself tremble.  He really liked Adam, like really liked him; and he couldn’t believe that maybe Adam liked him that way too.

But then he remembered back to the other night at the club when he had excused himself to use the restroom:  Brad had followed him in and cornered him.

“Kris.”

“Oh hey, Brad.”

“Look, Adam really likes you.”

“I like him too.”

“Good.  Don’t hurt him.”  Brad winked and then walked out of the bathroom.

He was a little confused by that.  Maybe Adam wasn’t just playing with him.  He needed to give him a chance.  Could he let himself fall in love with Adam?  Maybe he already had, just a little.

Kris looked at all of the clothes scattered across his bed and picked out a black button downed shirt with black jeans and boots.  The pants were a little tight; he thought that Adam would probably like that.  He always dressed like a rock star, even at the library.

Taking one last look at the mirror, he smiled to himself.

Adam arrived at Kris’s apartment right on time.   He had made a reservation at a little French Restaurant in neighboring Brea, California, called La Vie en Rose.  It was very romantic, and Adam wanted to wine and dine Kris, to make sure he knew that he wasn’t just a one night stand.

Adam walked up to Kris’s door and rang the bell.  He could hear shuffling inside and then Kris cussing.  Giggling a few seconds later, Kris answered the door, rubbing his knee.

“You alright, Kris?”  Adam sounded concerned.

“Yeah, I’m fine.”  Kris stood up and looked up and down at Adam.  “Wow, Adam.  You look amazing.”

“So do you.”  Adam walked over to him and wrapping his arms around him, he pulled him into a kiss.  Just a soft, I’m glad to see you, kiss, which melted Kris into a puddle of goo.  “Are you ready to go?”

Kris just nodded his head, really just wanting Adam to kiss him again.

Adam was the perfect gentleman.  He took Kris’s hand and led him to his car, opening the passenger side door for him, and waiting till he was seated before closing it.  He let Kris pick the radio station to listen to while they drove.  They spoke about the library and what had led Kris there.  They compared life as graduate students, since Kris had just finished his masters in Arkansas.

Upon arriving at La Vie en Rose, Adam walked to the other side of his car and opened the door again for Kris, taking his hand and planting a small kiss on his lips, smiling, before walking him into the restaurant.

Adam gave his name to the host as they entered, and held Kris’s hand as they were led to their quiet table.  He even pulled out Kris’s seat for him.  Kris had to stifle a giggle.  Adam was trying so hard.  He didn’t realize that Kris had already fallen for him.  But he appreciated all of the gestures to make him feel special.

“So Adam, have you ever been here before?”  Kris asked casually.

“Only once, it’s beautiful, isn’t it?”

Kris had been expecting that Adam had brought others here before, but to hear him actually admit it was…

“Kris”, Adam said, placing his hand on Kris’s.  He had noticed the immediate change in Kris’s demeanor.  “I brought my mother here when she was visiting me last year.”

“Oh…  Oh, that’s really nice, Adam.”

“You’re my first date here”, Adam assured him.

“I’m glad”, and he really was.

“Me too”, Adam said with a smile.

Adam ordered for them in French.  Kris was very impressed.  Turns out Adam knew three languages besides English.

The waiter brought them two glasses of white wine, along with their salads.  While they sipped on their wine, they discussed their favorite types of music.

While they munched on their delicious salad, consisting of Baby Greens tossed with Walnuts, Dried Apricots & Orange Dressing, they discussed Kris’s performing at the club, Adam giving him advice for movement on stage, which Kris eagerly took.

As the waiter brought them their entrée’s of the Sautéed Striped Bass for Adam and the Roasted Pork Tenderloin for Kris, the conversation turned to Adam’s desires for his own career.  He had told Kris that his dream was to be a rock star, but that it was unlikely for someone as openly gay as him to get a break in the music business.

Once they were on their second glass of wine and delving into their delectable meal, the conversation moved into more personal issues, like marriage.  Kris told Adam that he had been primed to marry a girl back home, Katie, and that both of their families were very disappointed in the fact that would never happen.  Katie forgave him, it was pretty obvious that he was not interested in her in that way, from the very beginning, but he kept up the charade for his family as long as he could.

By the time they had chosen their dessert’s from the cart, and were sipping on their coffees with orange liqueur, Adam had confessed his penchant for cute boys, but his desire to settle down one day.

By the time the check came, Adam was whispering to Kris, all the things he wanted to do to him in bed, trying very hard to keep their hands off of each other in the restaurant.

They couldn’t get to Adam’s car quickly enough and Adam was driving to his apartment.  Kris was nuzzled up next to him, his hands roaming all over Adam’s body, his lips pressed into Adam’s neck.

They quickly jumped out of Adam’s car once they had arrived, Adam completely forgetting to be a gentleman and they ran inside, clothes littering the way to Adam’s bedroom, mouths and hands all over each other.

“Kris”, Adam stopped for just a moment. “Are you sure?”

“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my entire life, Adam.”
